 Food Waste

  • Never pour grease down sinks, drains, or into toilets.
  • Scrape grease and food scraps before disposing in the trash into a can or sealable container.
  • Use a drain screen or strainer to keep food waste out of the drain.
  • Compost food waste.
  • Don't use your garbage disposal. (Garbage disposals do not actually dispose of anything, but only chop garbage into smaller pieces that end up in the wastewater. It is best to dispose of grease, fats and oils in the garbage. An added benefit is that there are fewer backups, overflows, and clogs in your sewer system. )
