Wise Land Use and Conservation
- When hiking, pack out what you pack in and if you see trash
on a trail, pick it up and dispose of it properly.
- If you hike in a weed infested area, clean your boots thoroughly.
By doing so, you can help prevent the spread of intrusive alien
plants to other ecosystems.
- Always follow marked trails. Don't cut new trails because this
may facilitate the spread of invasive species.
- Return unwanted pets to pet stores. Don't release them into
the wild. Cats, dogs, aquarium plants, fish and birds can adversely
impact native species and the ecosystem.
- Do not introduce alien species (animals) to various locals.
(eg. snakes are alien species in the State of Hawaii) Accidental
and intentional introductions are a major threat to native species
as well as that locals economy. If you see alien species, please
report the sighting to the police and/or the Department of Agriculture.
- Plant trees, flowers and shrubs and care for them.
- Teach a child that we can all make a difference in the health
of our environment.
